Dr. Dennis & Bev Bedard

DFA Founders, Managua, Nicaragua Trip Leaders

Dennis is a pediatric dentist who practiced in Edmonton for 32 years. Bev, his wife, joined him on his second mission trip to Guatemala in 1996 and became his dental assistant. Bev also was responsible for inventory control and caring for the financial books of DFA, which was established in 2000. Together they have completed 36 dental missions: 14 to Guatemala, 4 to the Philippines and 18 to Nicaragua. Their last mission to Guatemala was in 2009 as future trips were in the capable hands of Dr. Brad Krusky and Dr. Shane Fisher. Over the years the missions evolved in Nicaragua to serving a rotation of four main villages in the province of Chinendega. The main villages were responsible for notifying surrounding villages and dedicating a dental day for these villages. In 2016, Drs. Blaine and Trudy Aucoin took over the missions to the villages. The Bedards established a permanent clinic in the Barrio of Edgar Lang in the city of Managua. The Barrio has around 300 families consisting of approximately 1500 people who are the working poor of Managua. The clinic was established in honor of Padre Denis Hebert in a medical clinic previously established by him. The dental clinic was made possible by a generous anonymous donor.
